Congratulations to Palash Oswal and Tharindu Rusira! Both students were accepted by the Google Summer of Code 2014 based on their respective project proposals to contribute code to Arches.
As a reminder, the Google Summer of Code (GSOC) program gives students the chance to work on an open source coding project for selected mentoring organizations. This year, the program, with input from the mentoring organizations, chose only 1,307 students out of the 4,420 who applied via 6,313 project proposals.
Tharindu Rusira is a student at the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka. His project involves the implementation of a new data communication standard for Arches based on popular data transport formats, such as XML and JSON. The aim will be to enable Arches to import and export data more efficiently with different data sources through the improved data exchange mechanism. His assigned mentors from the Arches development team at Farallon Geographics are Adam Lodge and Ryan Anderson.
Palash Oswal is a student at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) in Surat, India. His project objective is to provide a simple, yet efficient Arches administration UI that is easy to use for even non-technical users. His assigned mentors are Rob Gaston and Alexei Peters from Farallon.
After the community bonding period which began yesterday, the actual coding begins on May 19 and ends on August 18, which is followed by project evaluations and a presentation of results.
Thank you to all of the students who submitted GSOC proposals based on Arches projects. Because so many other qualified candidates applied with fantastic proposals, we had a really difficult time choosing between them.
